History, Rules & Information
The TDM850 mailing list started out with a few people mailing to each other about one
weird but nifty bike! It is now a proper mailing list hosted by Lavallée Consulting Limited, and discussions include but are
not limited to, Super Teneres, TDM850s, and TRX850s, big DP bikes in general, and the joys
of owning something that makes uninitiated viewers scratch their heads!
| TDM Mailing List Rules and Guidelines (as of March 2002)
Failure to read this won't change the course of asteroids or bring down any
governments, but if you mess up, it may be troublesome for a lot of people and
embarrassing for you.
| RULE 1: No attachments (keep your messages short).
We've been hit with a virus once. It was a mess. Never look at attachments if you don't
already know what's in it, and that it's virus free. That cute little animation sent to
you by your best friend in the world may have a virus in it. The best way to avoid the
temptation of looking at unknown attachments is not to use them. Do not reply or forward
text messages as attachments, paste them into the main body of the message.
Do not send pictures or video to this list (some people may be reading this over a slow
connection in some backwater hotel!). I don't have much time to update this website
regularly, but there are other ways of making pictures and video available.
Finally, trim your messages to the barest text possible (don't include 5 screenfuls of
old message to add two lines of your own) and use plain text format, not HTML (rich text).
More and more people have wireless e-mail devices with tiny screens, and some display
garbage with Rich Text. It's not necessary and it's gross. Please dazzle us with your wit
and insight, not fancy fonts and colours.
If you have any questions about, attachments, rich text, or how to get things on the
list web page, write to jody@lcl.ca.

| RULE 2: Know how the list works.
To subscribe to the list, use the form below:
To unsubscribe, use the form below:
To post to all the list members, (and you must be subscribed to do so) send your
message to tdm@motoinfo.ca. E-mail messages sent to this
address are automatically forwarded to all subscribers with no command processing
whatsoever. This is where you send the stuff that you want everyone to read.
Do not mix these addresses up. If you have any questions or problems write to jody@lcl.ca
|
| RULE 6: There is no rule 6.
|
|
| A spot of Netiquette - The Internet equivalent of regular bathing!
| Include your name and email address at the end of the message -- not everyone's mailer
can pick it out of the header. |
| Trim quoted material as much as possible (it's almost never necessary to include
somebody else's entire message), retain attributions wherever possible, and make it clear
which bits are whose. |
| Change subject lines to reflect what's in the message. |
| Post only what replies you judge to be of general interest, otherwise, reply to the
original author only. |
| Remember that the look and legibility of your messages is an expression of yourself.
Having the information there is one thing, but if it's a chore for people to pick out and
understand, your point may be lost. Make your messages easy to read by using clear
formatting (a blank line is only one extra character) and your best grammar and spelling.
You're welcome to post in languages other than English if you like. |
